Question 1

Do I need to know music theory?

Accepted Answer

Not a single note. Octia starts with the basics, introduces each idea, and helps you connect it to what you hear and play. Go at your own pace.

Question 2

Which instruments can I learn with?

Accepted Answer

Octia has instrument-specific experiences for piano, guitar, and ukulele. Piano supports MIDI keyboards; fretted instruments have interactive fretboards and microphone input for single notes.

Question 3

Do I need to connect an instrument?

Accepted Answer

You can explore with the on-screen keyboard or fretboard. Connect a MIDI keyboard when you want to practice piano on real keys. Guitar and ukulele also support microphone note input.

Question 4

Which computers does Octia support?

Accepted Answer

The downloadable desktop app is currently packaged for Windows, with no developer tools or manual configuration needed. The web studio runs in any modern browser, including on a Mac, Linux or a tablet.

Question 5

How do I install the Windows app?

Accepted Answer

Download the installer, open Octia-Setup-0.1.0.exe, and follow the setup steps. This current build is unsigned, so Windows may show a SmartScreen notice. Only proceed if you trust the source.

Question 6

Why does Windows say “protected your PC”?

Accepted Answer

Windows warns about programs that are new or not yet code-signed. Octia’s build is not signed yet, so the notice is expected. Choose “More info”, then “Run anyway” only if you downloaded it from this page.
